OCR Scanner with LEADTOOLS SDK App Reviews

Text was orange. It did not read/convert!!

The text came out garbled, not even a word right. The only reason I can think of, is that the text (in jpg format) was in orange, on white. But it needs further work to find if it is the true reason, or the app is totally bad.

Simple, Fast

It’s taking me more time to write this review than it took me to download, install and convert the image I needed to grab text from. Great little app - You can’t go wrong. Good job guys!

You get what you pay for

I have used quite a few OCR programs in the past, but not recently. I had a long list of names and email addresses that came to me as a pdf graphic, which was quite clear and easy to read. I tried Leadtools OCR and was very disappointed. It misread about 2-4% of the characters (turning “m” into “rn”, etc.), requiring very intense editing. I would not use this program again.

not just jpg

app does not open jpgs and has no help function dont know what to do without this functionalities?

They deliver what they promise. How refreshing.

There are a lot of “free” OCR apps that make you pay after the first page. These guys don’t do that.

Not so good...

I tried this on a Word document with text that had been saved as an image - no luck at all - came out as gibberish with a few recognizable words thrown in for effect… Too bad!

Great, but very clunky.

I used this to OCR some PDF’s that appear to be scans of books for school. It works well although the UI is a bit underwhelming. Also it crashes whenever I click cancel on the load multipage dialog and a lot of random symbols end up between the pages of the output text. But it does accurately recognize most of the words and everything seems to be in order which is all I really want.

Does not create searchable PDF

Recognizes the text on a PDF but automatically exports a text file. Not what I was looking for. Do not know the accuracy of the OCR.

Incredibly Accurate OCR, Wonderful

I stumbled across this App while looking for a reliable and inexpensive way to convert a ton of scanned JPGs a client provided to editable text. I tried several options for the iPhone and several downloads for Mountain Lion via google searches as this is far and away the best Ive ever seen. It accurately decoded a dozen six column fair quality pages to editable text easily pasted into excel. Incredible, efficent, and a huge time savings!

Freezes up with 1000 page file

This program doesnt seem to be able to OCR large files without freezing up.

Not that good

I have a book that transcribing some pages for a friend would take too long, so I took HD photos instead. I was going to send them when I remembered OCR. I found this app and tried it. If the text is not perfectly level from left to right, it will not read it. I got some recognizable characters, but the rest was gibberish and garbage. Barely captured half of the text of the page. All of it was unusable. Removed.

Amazing yet quirky

I use this app infrequently, but so far, whenever I need it, it works well, with just a few quirks. I have not been able to figure out how to select only certain zones on a document to apply the OCR, so there is still plenty of editing that needs to happen afterwards. I also wish it could understand the concept of word wrap. The recognition is absolutely INCREDIBLE. I rarely have to edit the actual words, only the formatting.

Nice

Its been a nice little tool for me for performing OCR on PDF images. Use Interative > Draw Zone to put a rectangle around the region you want to OCR, click Recognize Text, and voi la. It seems to work pretty well with distorted images, such as images of open books.

Awesome, but interesting formatting

This app saved my life, becuase I could scan large documents into my Pages document. The only issue I found was that the text document incorporated new paragraphs into its formatting and therefore I would have to go through and delete all the unnecessary paragraphs in the Pages document. With a couple words here or there misspelled… This app is a Lifesaver!

better than the paid one

i tried buying different paid ones but this free one which i didnt expect at all it will worked, works even better,i wasted money by trying other useless promising with so many action it just makes difficult n heavy and takes hours to read a single page, but this one reads so fast and accurate, now i feel we should not think free apps are that bad.this is very good..

doesn’t work for me...

I have tried importing/converting several pdf’s and none of them have come out workable, it’s faster if I just type the original document in myself due to all the editing that has to be done, formatting is nonexistent compared to source material. The price is good, so I’ll hang on to it, but I, at least, cannot recommend it.

It works, just not for me

I need an OCR that will work for tables. This did a great job reading the text in my 28 page document, unfortuneately it’s output is completely unformatted. This means all the items read on their own line from rows of a table.

Awesome App

Does what it says! Easy to use. Definitely one of the best free apps to OCR PDF files on the fly.

Potential Galore

This app works well. It has a lot of promise even though some of the UI is a little different that expected. Is this the place for suggestions? Sure, why not? - preferences for results (text doc, clipboard, email, etc.) - make it applescriptable so results can be dropped anywhere (ex. FileMaker field) - drag-and-drop - ignore carriage returns by default - skip OCR on pages without zones
